This page says what stays on your device while you are here, and what leaves it. It is short because there is not more.
No analytics, and nothing that follows you
There is no analytics, no advertising and no third-party script on this site. No web font is downloaded — the words are set in type your own device already has; the films, the music and the images are served from this site’s own domain. The page makes no request to anyone else.
One cookie: the language you chose
One cookie, hermod-language. It holds en, zh-CN or zh-TW, lasts a year, and is written only when you change the language yourself. Its only job is to open in that language next time. Because it remembers nothing but the choice you just made, there is no consent banner here — there is no tracking for you to decline.
One thing kept in your browser: sound
Whether you chose sound or silence (at the entrance, or later with the Sound switch) is remembered in your browser’s local storage (hermod.sound), so that next time the one you chose last is offered first. Clearing site data removes it. The site uses no sessionStorage and no IndexedDB.
This site does not send your draft
What you type stays in this page’s memory. “Save your idea draft” downloads a .txt file to your own device — it does not leave your device, nobody receives it, and a refresh clears it. “Send by email” hands the draft to your own mail app, with the address below as the recipient; this site neither handles nor records it, and nothing is sent until you press send there.
Device figures, only to pick a graphics setting
Your browser tells the page how many processor cores and roughly how much memory you have, and whether you use a mouse or a touch screen. The page picks a starting graphics setting from that, then raises or lowers it as it measures how smoothly it runs. Those numbers do not leave your device. The site never asks for camera, microphone or location; there are no accounts and no payments.
Server logs: the one thing that leaves your device
Like any website, the server that hosts this one receives requests when a page opens (a page usually fetches several things): your IP address, browser identifier, the address you opened and the time, plus the referring page, the request method, the status code and the country inferred from the IP. The requests also carry your browser’s language preference and the language cookie above; the server reads them only to choose which language to answer in. That is what delivering a page requires. We do not profile it and we do not match it against anything else.
Links that lead away
A few links here take you off this site: each of the four projects’ own sites, and articles on Substack. Once you are there, that site’s own rules apply.
Your rights, and how to reach us
You may ask what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. For this site, apart from the records described under “Server logs” above, we hold none. To ask, write to hello@hermodsys.com.
